Earth Day Challenge!!!
EARTHDAY.ORG’s founders created and organized the very first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. Since then, Earth Day Network has been mobilizing over 1 billion people annually on Earth Day, and every other day, to protect the planet!
Mrs. James & the 6th grade Science teachers would like to challenge
YOU to clean up the environment- !
Be sure to capture your cleanup by snapping “BEFORE and AFTER” photos! Sharing these images with Mrs. James not only highlights your hard work, but also helps us spread the word and inspire others. All pictures sent to Mrs. James will be highlighted on the Morning Announcements along with the Oliver Winch facebook site! A great Earth Day initiative—simple, hands-on, and impactful! 🌍 Here are a few ideas to help us make the most of the challenge:
🌱 Cleanup Ideas
Pick up litter around your neighborhood, school grounds, or a local park
Focus on small areas like sidewalks, playgrounds, or streams where trash builds up
Sort recyclables vs. trash if possible
📸 Photo Tips (Before & After)
Take the “before” photo from a clear angle showing the mess
Stand in the same spot for the “after” photo so the difference is obvious
Try wide shots so the cleanup impact is easy to see
🧤 Stay Safe
Wear gloves when picking up trash
Avoid sharp or hazardous items
Bring a bag or bucket for collecting waste
🌎 Make It Count
Invite friends or family to join you
Share your photos to inspire others
Talk about why keeping the environment clean matters
This kind of activity connects directly to the spirit of Earth Day—taking action to protect our planet, even in small ways that add up over time.
If you want, I can help you come up with a short caption or message to send with your photos to Mrs. James!
